The promotion was first held in 2020. Its goal is to create green monuments to everyone who died during the Great Patriotic War. In total - 27 million trees in memory of the 27 million dead!
Already in the first year of the event, more than 300 thousand people from all 85 regions of Russia and over 50 countries joined the large-scale initiative. The pandemic also did not prevent the action - the caring residents of our country and abroad supported the new formats of #SadMemoryHome, planting trees in their plots, as well as uploading trees drawn with their children to social networks. The "Garden of Memory" was also supported by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, having planted a tree at the Rzhev Memorial to the Soviet Soldier. The head of state announced the action annually.
On March 18, 2021, the promotion started for the second time - on an even larger scale. In the year of the 80th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, it will touch upon the previously announced Cities of Labor Valor, cover the main memorable dates of the Great Patriotic War, places, as well as the names of heroes. New activities will also be added, among them - a large-scale participation in the action of schoolchildren from all over the country on the Day of the Last Call. Note that the action starts in Sevastopol, where the Garden of Memory will be laid out in honor of the main ambassador of the action, "people's officer" Vasily Lanovoy. It ends in Brest, an agreement on which was reached by the heads of the two states.
The international action "Garden of Remembrance" was organized by the All-Russian public movement "Volunteers of Victory" and the Fund for the memory of the commanders of Victory with the support of the Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia and the Federal Forestry Agency within the framework of the national project "Ecology", as well as the All-Russian Society for Nature Conservation. The general partner of the action is the Russian Copper Company.
