Frontline scout celebrated his 101st birthday

Deomid Ivanovich Proskuryakov from the city of Zavodoukovsk, Tyumen region celebrated his 101st birthday. He was born in the village of Goryunovo, Novozaimsky (now Zavodoukovsky) region. After graduating from the courses of tractor drivers, he worked as a combine operator at the "Svoboda" collective farm.
September 4, 1940 drafted into the ranks of the Red Army. On July 24, 1941, while defending the approaches to the borders of Leningrad, he was seriously wounded in the leg, and until the end of November he was treated in a hospital in the city of Kirov. After the hospital he was sent to the reserve, and on November 25, 1941, the Siberian returned to his native Goryunovo on crutches. But two weeks later he was driving a tractor, and soon his fellow countrymen elected the disabled veteran as chairman of the village council.
In December 1942, he was called up again, participated in the Battle of Stalingrad as part of the 288th Light Artillery Regiment, a reconnaissance observer of a mortar unit. During the war years he fought on the Leningrad, North-Western, 1st Belorussian fronts. He liberated Velikiye Luki, Belarus, Ukraine, Poland, and reached Berlin.
From the award list for the Order of the Red Star: “During the battle on April 27, 1944, under enemy artillery and mortar fire, he courageously and fearlessly brought mines to the mortar. He suppressed the fire of an anti-tank gun with mortar fire. Carried out from the battlefield 3 wounded soldiers with weapons. In the area of the railway, being in the ranks of the infantry, he killed 2 German soldiers from his personal weapons and suppressed the fire of a heavy machine gun with a grenade. "
In February 1945, he distinguished himself in breaking through the enemy's defenses on the Vistula River south of Warsaw, for which he was subsequently awarded the Order of the Red Banner.
He returned to his small homeland in September 1945. In 1947 he was elected chairman of the Goryunovsky village council, then Semenovsky, Starozaimsky, Khorzovsky, worked as a secretary of Novozaimsky and an instructor in the organizational department of the Zavodoukovsky RK CPSU. From 1975 to 1980 he was the director of the Zavodoukovsky city marketing department.
For military exploits he was awarded the Orders of the Red Banner, the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree and the Red Star, as well as numerous medals. For labor - the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and other awards.
