Panov Pyotr Yakovlevich

Hero of the Soviet Union (1912-2002) Born in the Sverdlovsk region, spent his childhood and youth in the village. Tursunt, Kondinsky district. He was engaged in fishing and hunting. He was drafted into the army in 1942. At the end of September 1942 he graduated from the courses for junior commanders. Until May 1943 he was preparing a replenishment to be sent to the front. In June-July 1943, as part of the 3rd battery of the 729th separate anti-tank fighter division of the 16th tank corps of the 2nd tank army of the Central Front, he took part in the battles on the Oryol-Kursk Bulge. In September 1943 he was sent to study at the 1st Rostov Artillery School. After graduating from the 10th Military Aviation School, he was retained as an instructor pilot. On July 6, 1943, a group of enemy tanks in the amount of 100 units, including several dozen "tigers", moved to the gun commanded by Sergeant P. Ya. Panov. In this fight, P.Ya. Panov knocked out and set fire to 11 enemy tanks, among them 5 "tigers". Thanks to this, the enemy's attack was choked. When the enemy tanks were scattered, P. Ya. Panova opened fire on enemy infantry, destroying about 2 battalions of soldiers and officers. By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated August 7, 1943, for the exemplary performance of combat missions to Sergeant P.Ya. Panov was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal.
