Varnakov Georgy Matveevich

Born on May 7, 1922 in the village of Krutikha, (now the Kurgan region), in the family of a wealthy peasant. In 1930, the family was dispossessed and deported to the village of Ozernoe, Tundrinsky Village Council (now Surgutsky District). After finishing seven classes of the Vysokomysovskaya school, Georgy worked as a hunter and fisherman. In 1942 Georgy Matveyevich was drafted into the army. On May 30, the Red Army soldier Varnakov set off for Omsk on the Jean Zhores steamer. From there he was sent to study at the Leninsk-Kuznetsk military infantry school. After two months of training, Private G.M. Varnakov was sent to the disposal of the Tomsk military organization, where he worked as a fisherman. In 1943 he was drafted into the active forces. Combat path: from 1943 he fought on the 1st Ukrainian Front, then on the 4th Ukrainian Front until April 1945. In 1945, after a month of training, submachine gunner Private Varnakov was sent to the front as part of the 1128th Ternopil Regiment 2nd battalion, 5th company. He took part in bloody battles for the liberation of Czechoslovakia and Hungary from the Nazi invaders. April 24, 1945 on the outskirts of the Hungarian city of Tarpau at the river. Tarpavki Georgy Matveyevich was seriously wounded in the face by an explosive bullet by a German sniper. He underwent treatment in military hospitals in the Polish city of Gleiwitz. After a long treatment in Tbilisi, where he underwent several plastic surgeries, Georgy Matveyevich went home. Awards: Order of the Patriotic War, I and II degrees; medal "For Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945." In 1946 he returned to the village of Ozernoye. He worked as a fisherman, hunter, buoy keeper, bookkeeper. In 1950, together with his parents, wife and daughter, he moved to the city of Surgut. I got a job as a watchman at a petroleum storage depot, where he worked for 28 years. He passed away on August 22, 2002. He was buried in Surgut.
